About 25 miles East of Salt Lake City, on the road to Park City, Utah is the resort area of Canyons. This area is primarily a winter sport wonderland. But if you come in late summer or early fall, you miss the summer crowds and the snow skiing fanatics have not arrived yet. With such places to stay like the Westgate Resort, Sundial Lodge, Hilton Grand Vacations Club at Sunrise Lodge, even the Waldorf Astoria, there is a place for everyone.
Hiking and bicycling trails abound, the view is breath taking, and you can enjoy long hikes in the hills virtually all by yourself. Thursday thru Sunday you can take advantage of the Red Pine Gondola service that takes you more than half way up the mountain where the Red Pine alpine lodge is located for refreshments and light meals. From there you can start your exploration by taking the nature trail right next to the lodge, and then taking the chair lift to the foot of alpine lake. We did a couple of hours of hiking from the alpine lake down to the Red Pine Lodge by way of the very easy Mid Mountain Trail.
There are many photo opportunities along this trail, and at one point you can see the zip line adventurers zipping down from one of the mountain tops over to the Lodge. It is very exciting to see these hardy souls descending at speed over some splendid canyons, several hundred feet above the canyon floor!
